Senior
National Team

Scotland Baseball brings together players based in Scotland and across the UK who are competing in domestic leagues and training environments at a high level.

Players are drawn from clubs throughout the UK, including those competing in the Scottish National Baseball League and the British Baseball Federation’s National Baseball League.  The BBF system and affiliated leagues (including the SNBL) is widely regarded as one of the strongest domestic baseball competitions in Europe, and the depth of talent across its divisions provide a strong foundation for international-level play.

Scotland Baseball is building an international fixture programme to provide competitive playing opportunities and accelerate the development of the national team.

Planned fixtures for this year include a series against Ireland (the Celtic Cup) and a series against the London Mets, the most successful club in the UK. These matches provide an opportunity to test the programme against established national and club sides and demonstrate that Scotland deserves a place on the International stage.

Additional fixtures will be confirmed as they are arranged.

International baseball is organised through the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC), which recognises one member federation per country. For the United Kingdom, that federation is the British Baseball Federation (BBF), which governs the Great Britain national team. Most other European nations — even those with much smaller player bases than the UK — are recognised as independent WBSC members and can enter the European Championship system in their own right.

Because Scotland is part of the UK, it does not currently have an independent route into WBSC-sanctioned European or international competition. Scotland Baseball’s approach reflects this reality:

First, we develop players capable of competing at the highest level — including contributing to the Great Britain programme, which competed at the 2026 World Baseball Classic.

Second, we are building Scotland’s own international playing opportunities through friendlies, invitational series, and tournaments — establishing a competitive record and raising the profile of Scottish baseball on the international stage.

This dual approach reflects both the structure of the current international framework and our ambition to create meaningful competition for Scotland on its own terms.

Because Scotland operates outside the traditional WBSC championship pathway, the programme does not receive the same level of federation infrastructure or centralised funding that many European national teams can access. International competition — travel, accommodation, facilities, equipment — is funded through the programme’s own fundraising, donations, and sponsorship.

Every fixture Scotland plays is made possible by the direct support of our donors and sponsors. This is part of what makes supporting Scotland Baseball meaningful: your contribution doesn’t supplement an existing budget — it creates the opportunity in the first place.

The national team player pool is formed through ongoing identification and evaluation. Players are assessed on the basis of performance, commitment, and readiness for international competition.

Scotland Baseball actively monitors domestic competition across the UK and maintains contact with Scottish-eligible players wherever they are based. Players interested in being considered for the national team are encouraged to register their interest.

Eligibility to represent Scotland varies by competition format. In most cases, players should be able to demonstrate Scottish residency or Scottish parentage and be available to attend training sessions and fixtures as required.
